Hilf und unterstütze die Shulgins
Alexander und Ann Shulgin sind seit Jahrzenten im Bereich der psychoaktiven Forschung tätig. Dr. Alexander "Sasha" Shulgin ist Pharmakologe und Chemiker, er ist vor allem für seine Wiederentdeckung von MDMA (Ecstasy) und die Schaffung von vielen neuen psychoaktiven Chemikalien bekannt, die er in den Büchern TIHKAL und PIHKAL beschreibt.
Alexander begann als chemischer Forscher bei der Dow Chemical Company. Im Jahre 1965 verliess Shulgin Dow um seinen eigenen Interessen zu folgen und wurde privater Berater.
Um seine Beratungstätigkeit weiterführen zu können erlangte Shulgin die DEA Schedule I Lizenz für analytische Laborarbeit, die es erlaubt jede sonst illegale Droge zu besitzen und zu synthetisieren. Shulgin richtete ein chemisches Synthese-Labor in einem kleinen Gebäude hinter seinem Haus ein, das seiner Karriere grosse Autonomie gewährte. Shulgin verwendete diese Freiheit um psychoaktive Drogen und deren Wirkungen zu testen. Er beschreibt diese Tätigkeiten ausführlich in seinen Klassikern PIHKAL und TIHKAL.
Im Jahr 1994, zwei Jahre nach der Veröffentlichung von PIHKAL, führte das DEA eine Razzia in seinem Labor durch. Wegen angeblichen Problemen mit seinen Aufzeichnungen, verlangte das DEA, dass Shulgin seine Lizenz wegen Verletzung der Lizenzbestimmungen abgibt und er wurde zu einer Geldstrafe von 25.000 Dollar für den Besitz von anonymen Proben verurteilt.
Richard Meyer, Sprecher des DEA San Francisco erklärte: "Unserer Meinung nach sind diese Bücher Kochbücher, wie man illegale Drogen herstellt. Agenten haben in den illegalen, durchsuchten Labors Kopien dieser Bücher gefunden". Laut ihm hatte die Veröffentlichung von PIHKAL mit dem Einzug der Lizenz von Shulgin zu tun.
Das Geld das dazu verwendet wurde um die Strafe zu zahlen war seine Pension, die er sich im Laufe der Jahre erspart hatte. Die Behörden nahmen das Geld von ihm als er in seinen 70ern war. Jetzt, fünfzehn Jahre später hat sich seine Gesundheit verschlechtert (im Jahr 2008 unterzog er sich einer Operation um eine defekte Aortenklappe zu ersetzen). Weder er noch seine Frau Ann haben Geld um die Krankenhausrechnungen zu bezahlen.
Die Shulgins haben eine grosse Sammlung von primären und sekundären physikalischen Materialien (Bücher, Journal-Einträge, etc.), die es zu organisieren, archivieren und der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen gilt. Erowid sucht $ 25.000 - $ 50.000 für dieses Projekt im Jahr 2010 um einen Assistent für Alexander zu bezahlen bzw. für Scan- und Verarbeitungskosten. Spenden können entweder über das Erowid Center oder direkt an die Shulgins gemacht werden.

they treat people like sh*t. most of the time INNOCENT people! just look at how they treated Howard Marks! its horrific! i bet EVERY member of the DEA has got massive god-complex.

With that being said, I feel it's important from time to time to take a little of our getting high money and give it to the people who are doing good things for the lot of us. And this goes not just for the Shulgins, but any other people, groups or organizations that work on things we all care about.
It's important not just to spread the word, but to help out (financially) when you can. Sometimes the mental satisfaction of knowing you tried to help these people can be a high in its own way.

Nearly everybody is taking "drugs" all over the world, and this great scientist, is kicked out just because he is working on something that doesn´t correlate with the illiberality of others!!!
The US-governement should care about the NRA or AB, or the kukluksclan!!! Or better, they should people let be people. They just should open their eyes. I don´t want to be a cientist like that in the US, i don´t want to be gay in the US, i want that mr. Obama gives his Noble price back...
